A diszkó,electro, funk, synthpop és az R&B stílus leszármazottja. Tipikus hangszerei a szintetizátor, dobgép, sequencer, sampler. Az első, kifejezetten house zenét játszó klub Chicagóban jelent meg Music Box néven.
Techno
Az első időszakban általában a Roland TB303/TR808 / TR909 dobhangmintákból egyszerű 4/4-es lábdobbal, és az első analóg szintetizátorokkal majd virtual analog hangszerekkel készítették a művészek ilyen stílusú zenét.
